1 Samuel 16:7
God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
When the Word of God comes to us, it reveals the things of our hearts. God cuts right through all the talk, past even all the things we do, right to the core- right to the deeper intentions and motivations that prompt the things we do.
There's something both wonderful and terrifying about having someone who truly knows you. They see past your carefully constructed image to who you really are underneath. They know your motivations, your fears, your secret thoughts. Most of us spend a lot of energy trying to keep people from seeing that deeply into our lives. But God's Word does exactly that - it sees right through us.God doesn't just address our actions or our words; He goes straight to the heart of who we are. His Word exposes the intentions behind our choices, the motivations we'd rather keep hidden, the attitudes we've convinced ourselves are justified. This can feel uncomfortable, even threatening. We might prefer a Bible that just tells us what to do rather than one that reveals who we are. But this heart-level exposure is actually one of God's greatest gifts to us.
How can we be healed from something we don't even know is broken? How can we grow in areas where we're blind to our own need? When God's Word exposes something in your heart, it's not condemnation - it's an invitation. He's inviting you into deeper relationship with Him, into greater freedom, into the person He created you to be-- a new creation formed in Christ! The same Word that reveals your need also provides the solution. The same God who sees your heart completely also loves you completely. Don't run from this heart-level encounter with God's Word. Embrace it. Let Him show you what He sees, knowing that His goal is always your good and His glory.
What is your typical response when God's Word reveals something uncomfortable about your heart - do you resist it, rationalize it, or receive it as an invitation to grow?
